The teaching philosophy described for the staff includes providing students with a solid understanding of fundamentals and the “cause and effect” applications of ball flight and its relationship to the clubface. It also includes a focus on understanding the “WHY” of each player, with an emphasis on proper focus when practicing and a positive outlook, and on helping students create shots and scenarios where they see their potential in their own swing.
The Reserve has hosted events such as The Fred Meyer Challenge (1998–2002), The PGA Champions Tour Major, The JELD-WEN Tradition (2003–2006), the Umpqua Bank Challenge (2012), and the Oregon Amateur Championship (2015), and over 50 major championship winners, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson, and Annika Sorenstam, have played there. Golf Digest, Golfweek, and GOLF Magazine have honored The Reserve in their annual “Best of” issues. One Google reviewer noted that the course was in great shape, had a good pace of play, an excellent practice facility and range, and staff that were very welcoming to the public, with a good variety of holes and challenges.
