In 1982, the Baker County Museum Commission established the Baker Heritage Museum, formerly the Oregon Trail Regional Museum. The museum is located in the 100-year-old Baker Municipal Natatorium, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The museum’s mission statement is: “Baker Heritage Museums preserve, interpret, and share Baker County's historic objects and archives. With focus, we provide hands-on learning for all ages and maintain robust and powerful exhibits that inspire exploration of our rich cultural heritage.” Core exhibits include Baker County industries such as logging, ranching, and mining, historical Baker City, Wally Byam's Airstream experience, Chinese heritage, native and non-native wildlife, and a collection of regional Native American artifacts, including stone tools. The central gallery currently features “Pioneers to Pillars: The experience and legacy of Chinese communities in Baker County 1860–1960.” Space is limited for Museum Camp, and a child's space is not secured until both registration and payment have been received.
