About
Oregon Basketball Club offers competitive team options, travel teams, teams for beginning youth basketball players, and regular practice, skill clinics, games, and camps. The program fields teams at each grade for boys and girls in grades 4–12, and OBC athletes are regularly evaluated and given feedback on areas for development and how to use their strengths. The program uses the game of basketball to create crucible moments and as an analog to life, taking time to discuss life events and share life lessons, and its values are represented in a W.O.R.K. acronym that is taught in practices and games.

Oregon Basketball Club states that it wants to be an asset to the community and partners with the student athlete, their parents, and their school coaches to maximize the athlete’s potential and equip them to navigate their path to placement. The program’s mission says it aims to teach children the game of basketball and life lessons associated with it, and it believes that if children are taught to Learn, Love and Work Hard they will contribute to and become the community the staff wants to live in. The program also states that it believes its values will grow players’ love for the game so they will pursue a relationship with basketball after their playing days as a coach, referee, or knowledgeable fan, and that the coaching staff uses their network of coaching contacts at all levels to advocate for and promote qualified athletes with the goal of obtaining scholarships.
The leadership team includes coach Shawn Malloy, coach JS Nash, and coach Donald Wilson. Shawn grew up in Raeford, North Carolina, attended Hoke County High School, and played at Chipola Junior College where he earned honorable mention All-American and led the team to a state title before transferring to the University of New Orleans; he began his professional career in Mexico in 2006, where he won MVP, and later played in Argentina, Venezuela, Lebanon, and finally Japan in 2013, where he helped lead his team to a championship before retiring in 2014 and beginning to coach youth and high school basketball while working for Nike. JS was a three-time all-state selection in California, scored over 2,000 points at Rancho Verde High School including 936 points in a single season, and earned honors such as Riverside County player of the year, 1st team all CIF, and two-time Sunbelt League MVP; he played at Oregon State University from 2001–2005, where he received the Lew Beck Award for top newcomer, the Paul Valenti Award for greatest desire and determination, and the Ed Lewis Award for leadership, then played professionally in Estonia, Belgium, and Holland, where he was a multiple All League selection, All Star, Player of the Year, and Team Captain. For the last eight years, JS has coached and trained many local athletes now playing college basketball from JUCO to Division 1 levels, and he serves as Director of Basketball Operations and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Life Christian School while coaching at Oregon Basketball Club. Donald Wilson was a two-time first-team All-Los Angeles player at Dorsey High School, scored over 2,000 points there, and made the honor roll as student body president; he played at the University of Portland, finishing 12th in career scoring and in the top ten in free throws made and steals, and he was featured on SportsCenter for an overtime tip-in at the buzzer against Saint Mary’s. Donald played professionally from 2006 to 2012 in top leagues in Spain, Holland, and Hungary, and he began his coaching career with the Centennial Basketball Program in Washington.
