About

High Desert Museum Kids Camp includes museum exploration, hands-on science projects, scavenger hunts, story time, arts and crafts, watching short educational films, free play, outdoor recess, quiet time, animal encounters and group games. Camp experiences focus on programs about the High Desert and the plants and animals that make their home there. Each camp day is designed to balance learning, creativity, play and community building, and most weeks include a special visit from animal ambassadors, depending on wildlife availability and week length.

• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: Standard camp day with morning drop-off, daytime camp hours and optional extended care in the afternoon
• Price: Members receive a 10% discount on Kids camps!

Recess takes place in an open area at the Museum or at the Pinecone Playscape, and snack and lunchtime are for campers to eat food from home. The High Desert Museum has been inspiring families since 1982. The Museum states that it cultivates a world where people and the landscape thrive together and that it teaches through innovative, interdisciplinary experiences that create connection to and dialogue about the High Desert. High Desert Museum Kids Camps are only available in English. The Institute of Museum and Library Services named the High Desert Museum as one of six recipients of the 2021 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, recognizing its dynamic programming, community outreach and work to expand museum access. The Museum’s leadership team includes Executive Director Dana Whitelaw, Board Chair Sharon Gueck, Collections Chair Bobby Brunoe, Development Chair Ali Dietz, Finance Chair Jim Campbell, Governance Chair Josh Newton and Secretary Romy Mortensen.
