Each day is designed to balance learning, creativity, play, and community building, and snack and lunchtime are a time to eat food from home. The High Desert Museum has been inspiring families since 1982 and is set on 135 acres with more than 100,000 square feet of exhibit space, and it includes a store and café.

Through its exploration of the High Desert, the High Desert Museum states that it cultivates a world where people and the landscape thrive together and that it teaches through innovative, interdisciplinary experiences that create connection to and dialogue about the High Desert. The Institute of Museum and Library Services named the High Desert Museum as one of six recipients of the 2021 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, recognizing its programming and community outreach, and the Museum is consistently rated as the top Central Oregon attraction by Trip Advisor.

The Museum’s leadership includes Executive Director Dana Whitelaw and Board Chair Sharon Gueck, along with board officers and members such as Collections Chair Bobby Brunoe, Development Chair Ali Dietz, Finance Chair Jim Campbell, Governance Chair Josh Newton, and Secretary Romy Mortensen, as well as additional Museum Board members and Life Trustees Michael P.
