About

Nature Kids is a series of guided family nature walks that include activities such as making unique insect art, creating nature mandalas, and making a butterfly feeder at home. The program offers themed outings like Sky Explorers!, Pollinator Power!, Bird Basics!, Wild Inventors!, Wildlife in our Woods!, Insect Olympics!, Teddy Bear Picnic!, Wings of Wonder!, Batty for Bats!, Mama + Baby Birds, Kids' Fairy Houses, Kids' Bird Walk, Kids' Butterfly Walk, and Kids' Falling for Nature. During these outings, families take part in activities such as bird watching, practicing using binoculars, checking out nests and feathers, exploring how animals use objects as tools, testing observation skills to find signs animals leave behind, observing butterflies and bees, learning about insect transformations, learning how birds communicate and find snacks, learning how flowers attract pollinators, learning how monarch butterflies migrate, discovering the world of bats, and enjoying a teddy bear picnic beneath the trees with games to play.

• Ages: 5–10 years old
• Schedule: Nature Kids outings are offered from April through October on specific dates and times, with additional kids’ outings on select dates such as May 9, 2026 (9–11am), May 16, 2026 (1–3pm), June 20, 2026 (9–11am), June 26, 2026 (10am–1pm), July 10, 2026 (10am–1pm), and September 19, 2026 (1–3pm)

The Deschutes Land Trust’s mission is to conserve and care for the lands and water that sustain Central Oregon, so local communities and the natural world can flourish together for generations to come. The Deschutes Land Trust connects people with the land through Nature Kids family outings and Weed Warriors volunteer events, engages volunteers to help restore Spring Creek, and invites the community to visit preserves, volunteer, and support events. The Deschutes Land Trust is a nationally accredited land trust and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, publicly supported organization. Nature Kids: Teddy Bear Picnic! in Prineville is led by Karen Walsh.
