SBG Bend Kids Martial Arts Program includes Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing as part of its kids program. The program also offers specific Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trial classes for ages 3–4, 5–6, 7–9, 10–12, and teens 13+, as well as a striking trial class for ages 13 and up. Straight Blast Gym (SBG) is celebrating its 30th year as an organization, and SBG Bend opened its 6000 sq ft facility in 2022. At SBG Bend, the martial arts and self defense curriculum is taught by coaches described as some of the area’s most highly trained and experienced. The organization states that it is founded on the principle of figuring out what works in a fight, including street, sport, grappling, striking, and self defense. SBG is described as a family with over 50 locations around the world, on every continent, and was founded in Portland, Oregon. It has trained fighters in many combat sports, and fighters like Conor McGregor, Randy Couture, and Forrest Griffin have all trained under the SBG banner. The gym is described as offering a family-friendly environment with overlapping kids and adult classes, a fully comprehensive co-ed beginner program, women’s only programming, and a sauna at the gym.
Parents and members have shared that their kids love coming to class multiple times a week and that they have seen progress in skills and self discipline after a couple of months, according to Angela K. Another member, Hannah B., describes SBG Bend as a beautiful gym where the place and people “have heart” and mentions that there is a sauna.
