Camp Odakoda was created in 2010 to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and ASD Oregon began in 2010 with its first camp program, Camp Quest. The camp is described as the only overnight camp in the Pacific Northwest specifically designed for children with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome and is centered around promoting social skill development in a fun and exciting way. The program includes a 2 campers to 1 adult counselor ratio and focuses on friendship skills, compromising skills, perspective taking, building confidence and self-esteem, and core skills to use in school and with others, along with group activities and non-competitive games. The stated mission is to facilitate the same kind of summer camp that most children enjoy, with added support, encouragement, and expertise specifically designed for children with these special needs.

Executive Director Misti Moxley leads the program, and the board members are Robin McCoy, M.D., Justin Winn, Dr. Brian Rogers, Ian Moxley, Dr. Amy Costanza-Smith, and Shelley Winn. Staff credentials include medical, developmental pediatrics, speech language pathology, healthcare finance, and education backgrounds, including roles at Oregon Health & Science University, OptumHealth, North Clackamas School District, and university teaching positions. A parent testimonial reports that counselors were kind and attentive, coordination was strong, the food was highly rated, and that the parent’s children described Camp Odakoda as the best time of their life, closely followed by the previous year’s Camp Odakoda. Sample food menus and sample schedules are available as planning documents, with updated options provided by email.
