About

Himmelbjerget Danish Camp is a week-long overnight camp where campers learn about the history, people, culture, language, and traditions of Denmark. In 2026, the camp theme is Jul, with a focus on celebrating Christmas in June.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long overnight session, June 21–27, 2026

Himmelbjerget Danish Camp has been around for 35 years. The camp is part of the Northwest Danish Association, whose mission is to preserve and share with others Danish culture, tradition, and values. Himmelbjerget promotes skills of leadership, teamwork, cultural awareness, and cultural acceptance, and camp is a way to make new friends.

In 2026, there are a few camperships available due to a generous donor, and grants are available through the Danish Sisterhood #81. Members get the lowest price on in-person camp, and NWDA membership supports programs like Himmelbjerget.

The camp director is Maren Williams. She describes her experience by saying, “I’m honored to be back as the director of Himmelbjerget. I started as a camper, became a counselor, language teacher, and have directed in the past. One thing I love about Himmelbjerget is the incredible team of people who show up to make magic and help kids understand their connection to Denmark, each other, and the larger world. I now get to bring my children to camp, along with lots of other second generation campers (and sometimes third generation campers). It has been the highlight of my summers since 1992!” The Northwest Danish Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington.

Northwest Danish Association’s community partners include Danish Sisterhood Lodge #40, Danish Brotherhood Lodge #29, National Foundation for Danish America, and Scan Design Foundation. NWDA also connects with the broader community in the Pacific Northwest and collaborates with several organizations and businesses, including Scan Design Foundation, University of Washington Scandinavian Studies Department, UW Center for European Studies, Danes Soccer Club of Seattle, Danish Brotherhood Lodges, Danish Sisterhood Lodges, The Swedish Club, Scandinavian Specialties, Danish American Language Foundation, and Nordic Northwest. Danish summer camps in the Pacific Northwest help preserve Danish culture through younger generations.
