About

Himmelbjerget Danish Camp is a week-long overnight camp where participants learn about the history, people, culture, language, and traditions of Denmark. The 2026 theme is Jul, and each year Himmelbjerget overlaps with the Danish American Cultural Retreat. The camp promotes skills of leadership, teamwork, cultural awareness, and cultural acceptance, and camp is a way to make new friends.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long overnight camp; 2026 session runs June 21–27

Himmelbjerget Danish Camp has been around for 35 years. The camp is part of the Northwest Danish Association, whose mission is to preserve and share with others Danish culture, tradition, and values. In 2025, there are a few camperships available due to a generous donor, and grants are also available through the Danish Sisterhood #81. Members get the lowest price on in-person camp. Himmelbjerget Danish Camp is led by Kayti Hilzinger, Himmelbjerget Camp Director.

The Northwest Danish Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Community members include Danish Sisterhood Lodge #40, Danish Brotherhood Lodge #29, National Foundation for Danish America, and Scan Design Foundation. One attendee of a related program said, “I really enjoyed making several new friends, eating the wonderful meal and hearing about the Danish people during WWII.” Another attendee shared, “It was so enjoyable in many ways, the program was interesting and diverse, the speakers were engaging, but even more so, the atmosphere was fun and friendly.”
