Merry Heart Children's Camp is a five-day, four-night camp where campers take part in games, crafts, hiking, and swimming. The program serves youth with heart conditions and is an all-volunteer organization. Each summer, 48 campers and six counselors-in-training attend Merry Heart Children's Camp.
• Ages: 9–14 years old
• Schedule: Five-day, four-night camp; 2026 camp dates are August 16–20, with counselors and CITs arriving August 15 for training and team building
Merry Heart Children's Camp has been hosting a five-day, four-night camp since August 2015. Since its first camp in 2015, it has been providing the only overnight camp for children with heart conditions in Oregon and Southwest Washington, and it provides a safe summer camp experience for about 54 youth with heart conditions, ages 9–14, from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The mission of Merry Heart Children's Camp is to provide a safe, nurturing and fun outdoor experience for youth with heart conditions where they can meet new friends and develop courage and independence without fear of being judged by others.
Merry Heart Children's Camp is a non-profit public charity organization recognized under IRS Section 501(c)(3) and Section 509(a)(2). The leadership team includes Mary Rice, M.D., Founder of MHCC, Director & President, and Board Past-President. Mary Rice, M.D., has stated that more than 25 years ago parents of a child with a heart condition asked where their child could go to summer camp in Oregon, and at that time there was no place, and that it had been her dream since then to have such a camp. She has also stated that early in her career she realized there was not a heart camp in Oregon and that at Merry Heart Children's Camp kids will get to know each other, talk about their experiences and build confidence.
Merry Heart Children's Camp notes that its 11th annual overnight summer camp was a blast. The program describes itself as a safe and medically-supervised summer camp program for youth with heart conditions from Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Community involvement includes a Supporter of the Month feature, and families and supporters are invited to follow the camp on Instagram at @merryheartcc and subscribe to its newsletter for news. The camp also invites people to celebrate Heart Camp by making a donation and notes that donors receive a beautiful commemorative print.
