Pelada Football Academy’s mission is to support the education of young people in the community through soccer by fostering values of positive leadership, team ethics, and fair play alongside the technical and tactical skills of the game. The program is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization that serves youth soccer players in the Eugene/Springfield area and aims to increase and diversify opportunities for competition locally by collaborating with other organizations, supporting leagues, and hosting tournaments and community events. Proceeds from the Pelada FA merch store are used to invest in equipment such as balls, goals, and cones.
Pelada Football Academy offers playing opportunities for every skill level and bases its programming around a four season structure, with options for both year-round training and competition and training-only options for players who are unable to participate in games. Players are not cut based on ability, and every player plays at least 50% of each match, in environments that are described as inclusive and supportive with an insistence on fair play. Clinics are tailored to specific ages and elements of youth soccer development and are open to any player, whether or not they are a Pelada Football Academy member. Summer Foundations Academy emphasizes teaching fundamentals of movement, coordination, and technique through fun and engaging exercises and small-sided games, with training once a week led by Pelada Football Academy staff coaches and members of the youth Coach Development Academy. Tournaments are single weekend events that typically include 3–4 games, with teams training for three weeks leading up to most tournaments. Pelada Football Academy’s stated philosophy includes Opportunities for All, Coaches as Educators, Competitive Player Development, and a Positive Approach.
