About

Dance Vision is a dance program where dancers train and compete in contemporary, jazz, hiphop, lyrical, and musical theatre styles. Dancers in the program can compete at regional events, perform at multiple showcases, participate in conventions and auditions, and work with L.A.-based guest choreographers. Team members train together to hone their technique, learn how to function as a team player, perform on stage with their friends, develop life skills through their dance experience, and build confidence.

• Ages: 7–18 years old

Dance Vision has a mini team, two junior teams, a teen team, and a senior team. The mini team is the youngest team to compete under the head of Dance Vision, with an age range of 7–11. Junior teams can range from ages 10 to 16, and teens from 12 to 17. Dance Vision’s senior team is an elite, technically based group of dancers, with an age range of 14–19, that trains and competes in contemporary, jazz, hiphop, lyrical, and musical theatre styles. All teams have the opportunity to perform at multiple showcases and compete at regional events, and upper level teams have the opportunity to participate in conventions, auditions, and work with L.A.-based guest choreographers. Dance Vision focuses on inspiring strength and building community through judgement-free dance, and its mission is to build community through dance. Dance Vision is a woman-owned company that believes in strength through movement and embraces diversity and body-positivity, stating that all athletes are always welcome.

The Dance Vision dream was born in 1992 when the first Dance Vision location was opened in McMinnville, Oregon. Since Dance Vision's inception, Artistic Director and founder Michelle McKinney has had the opportunity to touch the lives of dancers from all over Oregon and Washington. Michelle got her start in nearby Vancouver, Washington, and trained intensively in ballet, jazz, lyrical and tap. She furthered her dance education at the Edge Performing Arts Center in Hollywood, California, and Broadway Dance Center in New York City, and she continues her education through workshops and professional study.

Michelle has been an accomplished and recognized instructor and choreographer. Her students have been selected for scholarships to the Edge Performing Arts Center and Broadway Dance Center for the last 13 years. She was featured in Dance Teacher magazine and has received choreography achievement awards both regionally and nationally, including recognition from LA Danceforce, NYC Dance Alliance, Co. Dance, and American Dance Awards. She received the only choreography award given by Co. Dance for three years in a row, and Co. Dance awarded her the “Best Educator Award” in 2003. NYC Dance Alliance awarded her choreography the Critic's Choice Award in 2003, the Class Act Award in 2004, and recognized the dance company with the best sportsmanship in 2005.
