About
OCCT (Oregon City Children’s Theatre) is a theatre program that focuses on performance and crew work for children who show a desire to be involved in theatre. The program follows the idea of “Theatre for everyone, by everyone” and emphasizes specific expectations such as being prepared, being on time, making an effort, having a positive attitude, using good body language, being passionate, being high energy, being coachable, doing a little extra, and having a strong work ethic. Since it began, OCCT has included performers, crew members, volunteers, and assistants, with over 1,400 participants to date.
Director and Founder Michelle Leigh is a full time registered nurse. The leadership team includes Director and Founder Michelle Leigh and an Artistic Director and Choreographer who is her oldest daughter. OCCT was established in 2005 and has a ten year and 25 production history. The program’s mission states that every child who shows the desire to perform or learn the trade of crew should have the opportunity to do so, regardless of previous experience, and that great work comes with experience. The mission also states that the goal is to promote and nurture confidence and independence as both performers and people, and that whether or not participants continue in theatre, it is the goal that they carry the skills they have learned into their adult lives. The program describes its community involvement as changing the lives of kids in the community and supporting children and families whose lives are made better due to access to a program such as OCCT.
