About

Oregon City Children’s Theatre presents theatre productions that involve performers, crew members, volunteers, and assistants. The program describes itself with the tagline, “Theatre for everyone, by everyone.”

Michelle Leigh is the Director and Founder of Oregon City Children’s Theatre and is a full time registered nurse. Her oldest daughter is the Artistic Director and Choreographer. The theatre was established in 2005 and has a ten year and 25 production history, with over 1,400 participants to date. The program states that it is changing the lives of kids in their community. Its mission statement says that every child who shows the desire to perform or learn the trade of crew should have the opportunity to do so, regardless of previous experience, and that great work comes with experience. The mission also states that the goal is to promote and nurture confidence and independence as both performers and people, and that whether or not students continue in theatre, it is the goal that they will carry the skills they have learned into their adult lives. The program lists “10 Things that require zero talent”: being prepared, being on time, making an effort, having a positive attitude, using good body language, being passionate, being high energy, being coachable, doing a little extra, and having a strong work ethic.
