About

Family Series Concerts features live orchestral music concerts with shorter programs, interactive elements, and kid-friendly themes. Each concert is narrated live on stage, including performances such as Caroline Shaw’s musical interpretation of the book with narration and The Mountain That Loved a Bird performed with narration by the Oregon Symphony. The series also includes Wild Symphony, where Maestro Mouse introduces an ensemble of friendly critters while the orchestra plays the author’s soundtrack, and A Musical Journey Across the Galaxy, a 60-minute expedition featuring music from the Star Wars series and celestial classical music.

• Schedule: Concerts on September 27, 2026; November 15, 2026; and March 7 and April 4, 2027, with each concert lasting about an hour
• Price: Packages start at $33

The Family Series Concerts are part of the Oregon Symphony, which has roots going back to 1896 and the founding of the Portland Symphony. The series is led by David Danzmayr, Jean Vollum Music Director. The Oregon Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement programs aim to create exceptional musical experiences that inspire, enrich, and educate a diverse audience, creating a healthier and more vibrant community through the transformative power of music. These recordings have earned the Oregon Symphony multiple GRAMMY nominations, and each year the Oregon Symphony discovers more ways to reach more people, both in the concert hall and beyond.
