Hollywood Dance

Hollywood Dance offers Small Steps: Pre-Ballet & Tap Combo for ages 3 to 6, plus Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz/Tap Combo, and Tap. The program includes classical ballet, traditional jazz technique with stretch and strengthening, an expressive Contemporary class that blends jazz, lyrical, and ballet, and Hip Hop set to age-appropriate hip hop, R&B, and pop music. Small Steps introduces simple dance steps and movements, and the studio also offers Jazz/Tap Combo and Tap classes.

Programs

• Small Steps: Pre-Ballet & Tap Combo — 3 to 6 year olds · A specially designed program introducing simple dance steps and movements while protecting young muscles, bones, and joints.
• Ballet — Classical ballet tailored to each student's age and ability with special attention paid to proper technique and body placement.
• Pointe — Classical ballet tailored to each student's age and ability with special attention paid to proper technique and body placement.
• Jazz — Traditional jazz technique combined with stretch and strengthening, providing a well-rounded education of stylized, theatrical, contemporary and lyrical style of dance.
• Contemporary — An expressive style that blends elements of jazz, lyrical and ballet. Student must have previous Ballet/Jazz experience and be enrolled in Ballet/Jazz concurrently with Contemporary.
• Hip Hop — A class incorporating a fusion of dance styles set to age appropriate hip hop, R&B and pop music, working on basic rhythm and coordination.
• Jazz/Tap Combo — Class attire is listed for this class.
• Tap — Class attire is listed for this class.

About the provider

Hollywood Dance has been a fixture in the NE Portland Hollywood neighborhood for over 30 years. It is a non-competitive, family-oriented dance studio, and its mission states that it provides students of all ages with a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment; develops technical and performance skills; inspires creativity; builds self-confidence; and develops strong work ethics.

The studio is non-competitive and family-oriented. Classes, curriculum, performances, and costumes are family-friendly and age-appropriate. Small Steps is for 3 to 6 year olds. Contemporary requires previous Ballet/Jazz experience and concurrent enrollment in Ballet/Jazz.
