About
Lincoln Youth Soccer offers youth soccer programs that include both recreational and select soccer. Players participate in soccer practices and games during fall and spring seasons.
• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: The fall season runs from late August to the end of October, and the spring league runs from early April to mid-May, with a 6-game season in April–May; for 1st–5th graders, all games are on Saturdays and, in the fall, teams practice once per week.
• Price: $60 for Pre-K/Kindergarten; $85 for grades 1–2; $95 for grades 3–5; uniforms cost $44.25 and include a navy blue Nike jersey, shorts, and socks.
Lincoln Youth Soccer states a mission to provide positive soccer experiences that change lives for the better, with a vision of being a world-class, youth-centric soccer club that positively impacts every player, child, and family involved. The program describes its philosophy as a community-based, youth-centric soccer program that values long-term development over short-term wins and uses the mantra “Be Kind – Have Fun – Play Hard.” It is a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses a parent-coach model and volunteer workforce, and it notes that this model allows fees that are often 50–70% less than the clubs it competes against, with generous need-based financial aid and scholarships available on request to any family in need.
Lincoln Youth Soccer reports that it is youth-centric and values long-term player development over short-term wins, and that player joy, freedom, kindness, creativity, confidence, innovation, and problem-solving are nurtured and celebrated. It notes that a by-product of its commitment to player and child development is having teams playing at all levels, including the most challenging competitions in the state, and that it supports and inspires players in developing a life-long passion for the game in many forms of future participation.
Recreational programs participate in the Portland Youth Soccer Association (PYSA), and select programs participate in the Oregon Youth Soccer Association Timbers/Thorns league. Playmetrics is the app and website used to manage teams and communication during the season. Player fees go toward insurance, fields, equipment, coaching education, and registrar costs, and families in first to fifth grade age groups are required to purchase a team uniform, while uniforms are not required for the Kindergarten program; Kindergarten players without uniforms are asked to come to practice in a comfortable shirt and shorts. Families can purchase uniforms and other gear from Tursi’s Soccer by asking for the Forest Heights Soccer Club uniform in-store or online.
The leadership team includes President and Treasurer Jiwon Park, Vice President (Coaches/Practices/Registration) Jessica Torres, Equipment Director Emily Busse, At-Large member Tyler Holmes, and Emeritus member Eric Happel. The organization identifies itself as a community-based non-profit that exists because of volunteers supporting the Lincoln Youth Soccer community.
