About

Make Do Art Studio offers camps where children spend part of the day cooking and baking and the other part making art. Campers take part in activities such as drawing in sketchbooks, playing art games, reading books together, playing outside at a nearby park, illustration, printmaking, watercolor, and collage. Make Do Art Studio and Chef Fabi from Cookshop join forces so that one part of the child’s day is spent cooking and baking with Chef Fabi in the kitchen and the other half is spent making art with Michelle from Make Do.

• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week camp sessions from 9 am–3 pm

Make Do Art Studio was founded by two friends, Michelle Lamanet and Ashley Asbjornsen, in 2017, and the first art camps were hosted in a backyard yurt. This will be the 10th year of Make Do summer camp and the 8th year hosting camps in collaboration with Cookshop. Make Do is an art studio that offers classes, camps, and workshops for children and families, and it currently holds art camps and classes at Cookshop in Portland, Oregon. Camps are for students entering grades 1–6, and campers must be at least 6 years old to attend. Each listed camp session runs from 9 am–3 pm for one week, and each week of camp will mostly repeat the same recipes and art projects.

Summer 2026 camps are sold out. They aim to complete 5 finished art pieces a week, and each week of camp ends with a mini art show and a treat baked by the campers. All camps are suitable for vegetarians. Make Do Art Studio collaborates with Cookshop to host camps, and Ashley moved on to manage the Sellwood Community House in 2019, while Michelle continues to hold down the fort at Make Do. Michelle holds a BA in art. There is a cancellation policy for summer camps: cancellations before May 1 receive a full refund minus a $75 non-refundable deposit, and cancellations on or after May 1 receive no refunds.

If a camp is full, parents are asked to send an email to add their child to the waitlist. Parents receive an email one week before their camp session with more information and details about the week. If a child has any food allergies or intolerances, parents are asked to contact the program before registering to see if camp will be a good fit.
