My Voice Music Programs

My Voice Music Programs offers music classes, rock camps, recording sessions, artist mentorship, small group in-person classes with recording time, one-on-one mentorship, songwriting and recording sessions, and instrument lending. It also offers Satellite Programs that bring instruments and instruction to schools, youth centers, therapeutic centers, juvenile detention centers, and other youth organizations.

Programs

• MVM Studios — ages 9-24 · Full recording studio in SE Portland where music classes, rock camps, and recording sessions take place.
• Satellite Programs — ages 7-17 · Bring instruments and instruction to schools, youth centers, therapeutic centers, juvenile detention centers, and other youth organizations.
• Amplify Jr — generally 9-11 · Mondays, 4:00-5:30pm · $225 per session · Year-round artist mentorship program; rolling registration; no class Sept 7 and Nov 23-Jan 3.
• Amplify: Middle School — generally 11-14 · Mondays, 6:30-8:00pm · $225 per session · Year-round artist mentorship program; rolling registration; no class Sept 7 and Nov 23-Jan 3.
• Amplify: High School — generally 14-18 · Tuesdays, 5:30-7:30pm · $240 per session · Year-round artist mentorship program; rolling registration; no class Sept 7, Nov 23-27, or Dec 19-Jan 3.
• Band on Demand — 9-24 · Mutually agreeable; 8 weeks, one class per week · $225 per session · Small group in-person classes; includes recording time; availability is very limited.
• Hip Hop Lab — 14-18 · Fridays, 5PM-7pm · $225 per session · In partnership with Ascending Flow; drop-in option is also available for $25.
• Individual Mentorship Sessions — 9-24 · Mutually agreeable · $650 per session · One-on-one support; may be in person or virtual; waitlist is common.
• Let’s Write a Song Together — 9-24 · Mutually agreeable · $80 · One-on-one in-person or virtual songwriting and recording sessions; two 1-hour sessions or one 2-hour session.

About the provider

My Voice Music was formed in 2008 by Ian Mouser and a small group of individuals. Its mission is “Amplifying young voices and igniting self-discovery through music.” The program has been recognized by the City of Portland for having “greatly contributed to bringing music back into the lives of the next generation…fostering personal, social, creative and intellectual development…and transforming marginalized youth.” It says it serves over 1,100 youth each year and helps over 700 youth facing crisis annually through satellite programs.

• Play it Forward Scholarships — Provide free programs for youth in foster care, living in treatment centers and rehabilitation programs.
• Instrument Library — $40 per session · Borrow instruments to use at home.

All classes are pay-what-you-can-afford, no questions asked. Many classes have rolling registration. To obtain a scholarship, visit the Play It Forward page. MVM also states that students must be willing to collaborate with a diverse group of participants with varying degrees of musical experience.
