My Voice Music Programs focus on writing original songs, recording music, performing music, forming a band, and taking part in songwriting-based music workshops. The programs include weeklong camps where participants create and record music. Rock camps include writing original songs, recording them, and receiving a personal CD of the recordings.

My Voice Music’s mission is: “Amplifying young voices and igniting self-discovery through music.” In 2008, Ian Mouser and a small group of individuals formed My Voice Music, and the organization is led by Founder Ian Mouser. MVM Studios is described as a full recording studio and performance space where music classes, rock camps, and recording sessions take place, and it is also a full recording studio for emerging songwriters, musicians, beat makers, and poets ages 9–24.
My Voice Music brings instruments and instruction to run music groups at therapeutic centers, juvenile detention centers, schools, and other youth organizations. Satellite Programs reach over 1,000 youth ages 7–17 each year, and My Voice Music now serves over 2,000 youth each year. Facts provided also state that 1,100 youth are served each year, 70% of youth are served in foster care and mental health treatment centers through community Satellite Programs, and 75% of students received scholarships.
Play it Forward Scholarships provide free programs for youth in foster care and youth living in treatment centers and rehabilitation programs, and when a family pays full tuition, that tuition also pays for a student who needs financial assistance. Youth in the programs have written and recorded more than 10,000 songs. My Voice Music has been recognized by the City of Portland for “greatly contributed to bringing music back into the lives of the next generation…fostering personal, social, creative and intellectual development…and transforming marginalized youth,” and its music programs and leadership have been honored locally and nationally with several awards.
