North Portland Martial Arts offers martial arts, self defense, and fitness training that includes striking, boxing, kickboxing, clinching, and ground fighting. Classes include heavy bag rounds, boxing pad work, sparring, and strength conditioning. The program offers kids, teen, and adult martial arts and self defense classes, as well as a women’s kickboxing class and a sparring class.

The program describes a safe and supportive environment that welcomes all shapes and sizes and all levels of ability. Its training program blends the old with the new in martial arts, paying respect to earlier martial arts while evolving distinct styles.
The kids program emphasizes building strength, balance, and coordination, and kids learn boxing combinations, kicks, ways to communicate, focus, and how to set and reach goals. Ages can be as young as 5, but 6 and up is recommended for the kids program. Teen classes focus on kickboxing, building self confidence and awareness, sparring, and fitness conditioning. Adult classes are built around striking, clinching, and ground fighting and include sparring and strength conditioning, and all levels are welcome in adult classes.
The women’s kickboxing class is available once a week and is a space for women to learn and practice martial arts and self defense. The sparring class is described as a fun and safe place to pressure test techniques and ability, and all levels are welcome in the sparring class. A free trial class is available if families check the schedule and call.
