One With Heart Martial Arts is an independent, woman-owned martial arts and self-defense school. It offers training in the Indonesian martial art of Pukulan Kuntao Silat for kids, teens, and adults, and Pukulan incorporates several styles of Silat and the self-defense fighting art of Kuntao. Silat is traditionally practiced with musical accompaniment, and Pukulan students at One With Heart Martial Arts use music and drumming rhythms to enhance training. Tweens ages 12–15 can attend the Self-Defense Series with adult supervision, and the school also offers women and LGBTQ+ self-defense seminars. One With Heart Martial Arts has sister schools in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and was established in 1981. The leadership team includes Master Willy Wetzel and Mas Quinn, and One With Heart’s team of expert teachers is dedicated to improving lives through excellent martial arts and self-defense training. As part of the community, One With Heart Martial Arts has continuously provided students, parents, families, and businesses with classes and self-defense seminars.
Parent and student testimonials describe the staff as encouraging, patient, and talented in their craft, and note that children attending classes for over two years have experienced an incredible experience in classes. One testimonial describes a second grader’s program as balancing fun and playful activity with an introduction to serious and respectful training, with classes that feel safe and joyful. Another testimonial describes the afterschool program as the right balance of martial arts training and afterschool fun. Adult students report that the women’s self-defense class changed their life and that the school stands out compared with other schools they have attended. Other testimonials describe One With Heart Martial Arts as a welcome, supportive community space with a variety of ages, body types, and people, and as a safe, supportive, and inclusive space where all genders, ages, and neurotypes are welcome. Additional comments highlight that introductory classes balance technique with fun, and that students who started in inclusive self-defense training continued into martial arts, later becoming intermediate students and building a community there.
