About
Learning Gardens Lab Farm Field Trips and Summer Camps offers farm field trips and summer camps. The program plans to continue these activities using an award-winning curriculum in a teaching garden called the Grow Lunch Garden, with programming and staff moving to a new home in SE Portland and set to begin in early 2025. The staff at The Learning Gardens Lab hopes to begin offering farm field trips in the spring of 2025.
The Sauvie Island Center is merging with the Learning Gardens Lab, and programs will continue under The Learning Gardens Lab, which is a newly established 501(c)(3) organization. The Learning Gardens Lab has a long and mutually beneficial partnership with Portland State University and operated under Portland State University’s Leadership for Sustainability Education Master’s degree program for over 20 years. The SE Portland site is a 12+ acre collaborative space that is home to a diverse community of people whose experiences are more closely aligned with the students that they serve, including some of the same schools served by the Sauvie Island Center scholarship program. The Sauvie Island Center has been delivering field trips for over 20 years, and students have visited bucolic farms since 2005. The current board chair is Celine Fitzmaurice.
