About
Youth Programs includes activities such as College Essay Exchange, Students to the Schnitz, Verselandia!, and Writers in the Schools. The program takes place through Literary Arts and focuses on these named youth-focused literary activities.
The mission of Youth Programs, as part of Literary Arts, is to engage readers, support writers, and inspire the next generation with great literature. Olivia is listed as the Youth Programs contact on the leadership team. The program provides local high school students with tickets and transportation to concert hall events and reserves seats for local community organizations at these events. One testimonial from Min Jin Lee, a 2019/20 Portland Arts & Lectures speaker, states that Literary Arts supports readers, writers, and books and describes its work as building engaged communities. Another testimonial from author Jennifer Egan describes Portland Arts & Lectures as a “gold standard” lecture series and notes its literary engagement among local writers, local high schools, and a vibrant reading community.
