The Sherwood Basketball Organization is a non-profit organization guided by by-laws established on June 13, 2007 and last amended on April 28, 2024. Its mission is to provide a development-focused basketball experience for youth of all skill levels in grades 3–12 who reside within or are students of the Sherwood School District, with stated goals that include putting the player and youth first, allowing players to learn “life lessons” with value beyond the basketball court, providing a safe, fun, and competitive learning environment for all levels of youth athletes, building a sense of pride within the community and the organization, and ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all players, coaches, families, and volunteers. The Recreational Program is a league for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 who currently live in Sherwood and/or are students of the Sherwood School District, and it emphasizes participation, skill development, good sportsmanship, and having fun. The Classic Program is open to boys and girls in grades 4 through 8 who currently live in Sherwood and/or are students in the Sherwood School District and offers a higher level of competition for more experienced players; if a player is not selected for a Classic Team, that player is automatically registered for the Recreational Program and issued a refund of the difference between the programs.
Program fees for the Classic Program include tournaments, 1 or 2 state tournaments if the team qualifies, 2 or 3 weekly team practices based on grade level and gym availability, and a uniform kit. Limited full and partial scholarships are available for Youth and Boys High School and for Classic programs, and full refunds are available for requests made before final team rosters are announced, which can be as soon as the day after evaluations. The girls league for High School Rec is run by Lake Oswego Parks and Rec, all girls from Sherwood play together in this league, games are held at the Lake Oswego Rec Center next door to Lakeridge High School, and there are no spectator fees. The stated goal for Girls High School Rec is to have one team for grades 9/10 and one team for grades 11/12, and this program includes one practice in Sherwood per week.
