Timberline Ski & Ride School is part of an organization that states a mission to provide skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and year-round recreation, along with historic lodging, fine dining, and memorable experiences, while practicing historic preservation and environmental stewardship. The mission also states a focus on providing a safe and warm family atmosphere, jobs and economic stimulus for the local community, a high level of social responsibility, a safe and healthy working environment, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion of all people in all aspects of what it does. Timberline has been part of the Mt. Hood community for over 60 years and continues, after 85 years, to offer a high-alpine mountain experience. The leadership team includes founder Richard L. Kohnstamm, second-generation area operator Jeff Kohnstamm of R.L.K. and Company, Director of Marketing & Public Affairs John Burton, and Donations Coordinator Sally Kohnstamm. Timberline is a National Historic Landmark, is an equal opportunity service provider and employer, and operates under a special use permit issued by the Mt. Hood National Forest, USDA Forest Service.
Timberline partners with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon, and the U.S. Forest Service as part of its Land and Peoples Acknowledgment. Through its giving program, Timberline states that it is particularly supportive in the areas of education, conservation, winter recreation, culture and the arts, and health, with a focus on the mountain community, the east county, and the greater metropolitan Portland area. Timberline welcomes nearly two million visitors each year and offers year-round snow, and the chairlift connection between Summit Pass and Timberline is described as the cornerstone of Timberline’s upgrade plan. Timberline has worked with companies such as Burton, K2, RedBull, Monster Energy, Poor Boyz Productions, GoPro, J. Crew, Nieman Marcus, American Eagle, Nordstrom’s, REI, Macy’s, and Kohl’s for commercial photography, and on-snow access to existing terrain or custom builds is available by request for film production crews. Written proof of insurance of at least $3 million is required before filming, naming the U.S. Government and R.L.K. & Company dba Timberline Lodge and Ski Area as additional insured and indemnified, and Timberline Lodge photo release forms are required for commercial photography and film shoots.
