Camp Fire Central Oregon offers programs that get youth outside and engaged with the natural world, with staff and programming focused on helping them build appreciation for nature. Tumalo Day Camps are led by a longtime Tumalo Day Camp lead who works hard every year to ensure everyone has a fun and safe experience. Camp Fire Central Oregon also offers No School Day Camps, including participation in the Bend Veterans Day Parade as a long-held tradition.
Camp Fire Central Oregon has been an innovative leader in youth development since 1916. Its mission is to connect young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. The organization creates safe spaces where young people can have fun and be themselves, and programs are customized to meet the needs of youth, their families, and their local community. The common thread woven through all programs is relationships, with a focus on self-discovery, community connection, and engagement with nature. Camp Fire Central Oregon is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and provides a quarterly email newsletter with infographics, research, articles, stories, and news. The organization offers financial assistance, has a cancellation policy, conduct agreements, and a Parent/Guardian Handbook.
Camp Fire Central Oregon received national recognition for the prestigious Culture of Safety Award and was honored at the 2025 Camp Fire Leadership Conference for its commitment to youth protection and abuse prevention. Executive Director Kecia Kubota holds a Masters degree in International and Intercultural Management with an emphasis in Training and Human Resource Development. The leadership team includes Kecia Kubota — Executive Director; Melanie Feltmate — Operations Director; Morgan Schaening — Program Director; Mary Bowker — Special Projects Director; Cece Valceschini — Program Specialist; and Javier Leiva — Executive Administrator.
