Established in 1961, Jenkintown Youth Activities (JYA) is a non-profit, volunteer-run youth sports organization serving the families of Jenkintown and Abington and is also the home of Jenkintown Abington Little League (JALL). JALL consists of Intramural Spring Baseball, Softball and Quickball, as well as Travel Spring Baseball and Fall Baseball. The mission of JYA is to develop its athletes to their full potential and to promote participation in youth sports in the community through positive coaching, a fun and safe environment for players, coaches, and families at practices and games, making all players an important part of the team regardless of athletic performance, teaching lessons of sportsmanship and community service, and teaching skills, tactics, and strategies of the game to improve players. JYA states that coaches and players are held to the highest standard of conduct to foster sportsmanship, integrity, self esteem, discipline, and ethical behavior, and that travel teams are set up as a “High School Feeder” model youth program committed to providing an opportunity for every athlete. The organization describes itself as a 100% volunteer-based nonprofit that achieves its mission through dedicated volunteers, caring parents, and committed sponsors, and lists a leadership group that includes Joe Duffey (President), Mark Heere (Vice President), Shawn Walker, Jim Callahan, Art Bennett, Hilary Fuelleborn, Matt Zielenbach, Jared Graziani, Ryan Alligood, Brendan Duffey, Colleen McKelvey, Sean Lamplugh, Jess Wilt, Don Garecht, Melinda Levandoski, Christian Wurst, Jeremy Petre, Sean Ryan, Ryan Cella, Jess Sanchez, and Janet Lewis. Once someone signs up to coach, the League Coordinator contacts that coach in the weeks before the season begins to arrange all needed equipment and information.
