Coatesville Kids to College is a faith-based initiative with a stated mission to provide academic, social-emotional, and spiritual empowerment to children, youth, and families in Coatesville, PA through engaging enrichment, reduced cost preschool, and free afterschool and summer camps. It describes a “pipeline of promise from pre-K to college” with beginning-to-end programming that offers educational resources for children and youth at every level of their development so they can progress successfully through school and eventually graduate from college. Seven years ago Coatesville Kids to College started with six children in a half-day preschool and has since developed into a full-day preschool with two classrooms, multiple after-school programs, and two full-day summer programs serving over 100 children and youth and their families each year. The program notes that it serves a community described as having a 40% poverty rate, with more than half of the students living below the poverty line below grade level in reading and math by the 3rd grade, and it credits amazing partnerships and generous donors with allowing it to provide resources and beyond-the-classroom support to families.
The leadership team includes founder Keith Wilburn, Interim Executive Director Steve Wilson, Assistant Executive Director Aja Evers, Director of Preschool Jhenifer Melton, Lead Teacher Beth Lambert, Teacher’s Assistant McKenzie Thornton, and Office Manager Christine Hansel.
