Willow Brook Stables Camps and Riding Lessons
Willow Brook Stables, 144 Herman Rd, Fombell, PA 16123
About
Willow Brook Stables Camps and Riding Lessons offers hunter riding, jumper riding, and equitation, along with lessons, camps, leasing, boarding, showing, and training. Camp and lesson activities use a hands-on approach to horse safety, proper grooming, learning proper terminology for the tack and the horse, and how to properly tack and un-tack a horse. Willow Brook Stables is a full service hunter, jumper, and equitation barn and does not offer trail riding services.
• Schedule: Monday–Sunday, 9:00 AM–7:00 PM
Willow Brook Stables is owned by Kristi and Tom Airgood, with key instructors Kristi Airgood and Lauren Prisuta. Kristi is a third-generation equestrian with over 30 years of experience loving, riding, and showing horses, and she spent her children’s and junior years riding with and working for Amy Reistrup at AYR Show Stables in Lexington, Virginia. While training with Amy, Kristi traveled the USEF national circuit competing on her horses Alaska and Polux. Kristi believes in a positive reinforcement approach to teaching students and uses the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) to drive her lesson program, which allows all levels of riders access to horse showing and assigns horses by random draw, with riders judged on their equitation and effectiveness with that draw.
Kristi has taken several horses and students to local and national championships, including having the 15th overall Large Pony at the 2016 USEF Pony Finals in Lexington, Kentucky. Many of her riders receive year-end awards with the Western Pennsylvania Professional Horsemen’s Association, The Mountaineer Hunter Jumper Association, and the USEF Zone 2 Year End Awards. Her horse Alaska was the 2002 Small Hunter Champion at The Upperville Colt and Horse Show in Upperville, Virginia, and Polux was the 2004 Southwest Virginia Regular Working Hunter Champion.
Lauren Prisuta has worked with horses her entire life, starting as a young girl on her family’s farm in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. She continued riding while attending the University of Pittsburgh, where she rode on the IHSA team and worked for Becki Bloom. For 13 years, she was a riding instructor and professional rider for Culver Training Stables. She completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005 and taught elementary education from 2005–2013 before choosing to focus on her equine career after her daughter was born in 2013. Lauren has had riders and teams qualify for regional, zone, and some years national finals in IEA, and in 2019 she was named IEA Coach of the Year and Show Host of the Year.
The mission of Willow Brook Stables is to provide purposeful training and exceptional horsemanship, helping riders of all ages set and pursue their equestrian goals in a fun, safe, and supportive family atmosphere. Many of Kristi’s riders receive year-end awards with the Western Pennsylvania Professional Horsemen’s Association, The Mountaineer Hunter Jumper Association, and the USEF Zone 2 Year End Awards. One of the organizations that has driven her lesson program is the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, which has opened up the sport to many. A quote associated with the program is, “No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.”
