About
Summer Day Camps include activities such as discovery and sensory walks, stories, crafts, and nature-themed activities and crafts. Campers spend time learning about the different birds and plants that live in Wildwood Park’s wetlands, learning about animal characteristics, and exploring native trees, mammals, amphibians, insects, and water and wetlands. Activities also include investigating aquatic life in Paxton Creek, experiencing live animals up-close, enjoying a live animal presentation, hiking, journaling and sketching, flower pressing, using binoculars, learning about species identification and natural history, and learning about life beneath the water, tracks and scat, plants, insects, and birds. Older campers take part in basic wilderness survival skills, daily hiking, fire building, learning about wild edibles, water filtration, navigation skills, daily “initiative” challenges and activities, an off-site trip, and a tandem kayaking experience on the Susquehanna River.

Camps fill quickly as space is limited, with registration capped at 16 campers for Little Sprouts Day Camp, 20 campers for Nature Explorers Day Camp, 20 campers for Junior Naturalist Day Camp, and 18 campers for Outdoor Week. Parent(s) or guardian(s) are responsible for daily pick-up and drop-off of campers, and campers must bring their own food for camps. Campers must be the specified age by the start of their week of camp, and activities and topics will be repeated, so participants are asked to register for only one week for certain camps. All camper registration information is gathered upon purchase, and an email is sent two weeks before the child’s scheduled week of camp with details. Chaperones are not required to stay with Little Sprouts campers.
Limited scholarship funds may be available to camp registrants in need of financial assistance, with scholarship funding provided by Appalachian Audubon Society. Scholarship inquiries must be submitted between January 5, 2026 and March 25, 2026 and must include the name, phone number, email, camper name, age, and camp interested in, and must be submitted to Savanna Berry at [email protected]. Friends of Wildwood, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that supports Wildwood Park and the Benjamin Olewine III Nature Center in Harrisburg, PA. Wildwood Park trails are open from dawn until dusk every day, and Nature Center hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00 am–4:00 pm, and closed on Mondays and holidays.
