Indiana Outdoor School offers outdoor exploration that includes farm experiences, foraging of wild edibles, gardening, hiking, and camping. The program includes activities on working farms and in garden settings, with a focus on time spent outside in nature.
The Indiana Outdoor School is a collaborative project between local farmers and educators at Nature Works Farm and Mother Earth Farm in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Its mission states that it is committed to regrounding the community by connecting children with nature and farm experiences, inspiring the community on the wonders of the natural world, modeling responsible care of the earth, presenting sustainable food systems, encouraging imaginative play and exploration, discovering the possibility that youth can change the world, and creating a space and opportunity to practice kindness to all living things. Leadership includes Chloe Drew, who has an elementary education degree from IUP, is the founder and co-owner of Mother Earth Farm, and serves as the Indiana Community Garden youth educator; Bob Madden, who is an environmental educator and small scale farmer; and Chelsey Ray, who is an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Mother Earth Farm is described as a women-owned, family-operated farm that uses organic practices, never sprays with pesticides or uses inorganic fertilizers, and uses on-farm inputs, locally sourced manure, and no-till practices, and it specializes in a wide selection of chemical-free garden plants including flowers, herbs, vegetables, and hanging baskets, as well as producing and selling seasonal produce, cut flowers, and eggs, and raising a variety of livestock. The program lists 2026 Summer Camp registration with new programs added, along with 2026/2027 Home Education Programs and 2026/2027 Forest Pre-School/Kindergarten Programs, Field Trips, and Holiday Clubs.
