About
Lancaster Rec Youth & Families Programs offers activities that include Youth Sports, Dance, Esports, Early Childhood Education, Before & After School Care Programs, Summer Camps, Summer Day Camp, Summer Playgrounds, Summer Playgrounds & Wading Pools, and Youth Sports and Dance programs. The program also includes Full-Day Child Care, year-round state-licensed child care for six-week-old infants through 12-year-old children, and daily learning centers with science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics, language, and small group activities. Families can also take part in Bay Street Community Garden, Conestoga Pines Pool, Parks and Fitness, Open Streets Lancaster, Lancaster Unity Cup, RecToberFest, Winter Carnival, and Youth Athletic Scholarships.
• Schedule: The office is open Monday–Friday from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and general questions can be asked by phone during those same hours.
• Price: Scholarships for eligible children can reduce the cost of sports programs by 50% or more.
The stated goal of Lancaster Rec Youth & Families Programs is to provide a safe and enriching environment for children to learn and grow through play and for families to grow closer by spending quality time together. The child care programs are state licensed by the PA Department of Human Services and are measured by Keystone STARS, a state-supported and funded quality improvement program. The curriculum in the child care programs incorporates the State’s Early Learning Standards.
Staff for these programs are carefully chosen and trained, with mandatory FBI and state police criminal background clearances, child abuse registry clearances, first aid and fire safety training, and physicals. Program directors have bachelor’s degrees with at least 30 credits in education, and all staff members must attend 24 credit hours of professional development each year. Lancaster Rec is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency, and it offers new youth and family programs, classes, sports, and events every month, including community events such as Open Streets Lancaster, Lancaster Beer Gardens, Lancaster Unity Cup, RecToberFest, and the Winter Carnival.
Leadership roles are divided among specific staff members. Marisol Rosario and Vanessa Torres handle program registration, program payments, and general questions. David Adams is responsible for field and facility rentals, building and field maintenance, and the administrative office. Kisha Pinkney, Emily Zimmerman, Leida Collazo, and Sacoya Jackson oversee the Lancaster Rec Early Learning Center at McCaskey High School, Pre-K Counts, Preschool Day Care, Before & After School Child Care, and Summer Camps. Luke Mateyak, Chris Haer, Spencer Shambaugh, and Mathieu Schroeder are responsible for Youth and Adult Sports, Youth Dance Classes, Adult Fitness Classes, Conestoga Pines Pool, Summer Playgrounds and Wading Pools, Open Streets Lancaster, Lancaster Unity Cup, Lancaster Beer Gardens, and special events. Tina Miller oversees the Lancaster Rec Senior Center, senior fitness classes, and senior recreation programs. Rachel Odrosky handles human resources, hiring, and new hire questions, while AJ Eckman manages press, communications, community relations, large gifts, grants, sponsorships and donations, marketing, and development. Sean Kennedy is responsible for Esports, technology, and IT, and Jack Bingeman and Heather Dighe work in the administrative office.
