Creek Connections involves students in hands-on, inquiry-based investigation of local waterways. Participants take part in ongoing water quality monitoring of these waterways, turning them into outdoor laboratories for study and data collection. The program focuses on increasing awareness of watersheds and natural resources through these activities.
Creek Connections is led by a team that includes Project Director Wendy Kedzierski, Pittsburgh Area Educator Laura Branby, Project Founder Jim Palmer, and Dr. James O. Palmer, founder of Creek Connections. The program has forged a partnership between Allegheny College and regional K–12 schools, and annually involves over 40 different secondary schools and the classes of 50 teachers. Allegheny College, which is connected with Creek Connections, is recognized as the first carbon-neutral college in Pennsylvania and the eighth in the United States. Creek Connections can accept donations from Pennsylvania businesses that take part in the EITC program.
