Lights, Camera, Acting! offers weekly classes for students from Pre-K through 12th grade, with each class session covering a different genre of theater, and every class ending with a performance for family and friends. The program uses an age-appropriate approach to theater with distinct descriptions for Pre-K–1st grade, 2nd–6th grade, and teens, and incorporates acting, public speaking, and creative movement. The program includes film classes that students have described as “2 thumbs up,” and offers summer registration, a weekly theater workshop for homeschooling families, and Maddie’s Sunshine Scholarship Fund.

The program’s mission is described by Executive Director Aviva Meyrowitz: “LCA is a place where your differences are embraced and encouraged alongside your ability to express yourself. Acting and improv build confidence in our students and channels their creativity in ways that help them be their best selves.” The program focuses on vocal projection, self-confidence, and teamwork, and presents skills for theater as the same skills needed for a successful life. It offers programs that appeal to children and adults with many different interests, including incredibly fun acting, improv, and musical theater classes for all ages.

The leadership and teaching team includes: Aviva Meyrowitz (She/Her), LCA Owner, Artistic Director, K-12th Grade Teacher and Executive Director; Elyssa Barberio (She/Her), Production Manager; Isabella Rota-Talarico (She/Her), Creative Coordinator/ K-12th Grade Teacher; Tappany d’Arcy (she/her), 2nd–6th grade Acting and Film Teacher; Katrina Kellmer (she/her), K–1st Teacher; Bridget Sweeney (She/Her), 2nd–6th Acting Teacher; Meghan Malloy (She/Her), Teen/Adult Acting Teacher; Christy Devlin (She/Her), Teen Improv Teacher; and John Martin (he/him), Improv and Acting Teacher. One parent shared that their daughter has been attending classes at Lights, Camera, Acting! for five years, that her love of theater has been solidified, that her ability to communicate with others has improved dramatically, and that she looks forward to acting class each week more than anything else, while also describing the teachers as having an astounding talent to bring out the best in each child of any age and observing growth in self-confidence in all the kids over each session. Another parent stated that their family has been involved with Lights, Camera, Acting! since it first opened in 2009 and that over 10 years at LCA, the acting instruction has been stellar and the love and care from the staff have helped their daughter go from a shy, timid child to a confident and kind young adult. A third parent described that eight years ago their daughter discovered a true passion through a new activity at LCA, and that the teachers have become role models and mentors, highlighting positivity, creativity, kindness, great energy, and a passion for making their child the best version of themselves, and thanked the team for helping their daughter to shine. To honor the life of a beloved long-time student, Madeleine Irene Antunes, the program presents Maddie’s Sunshine Scholarship Fund.
