Northeastern Child Care Services (NCCS), the not-for-profit organization behind Treasure House Child Development Centers, began operations on February 2, 1989, with five child care centers and was founded by Judith Graziano, who had administered child care programs since 1968. NCCS states that it strives to provide high-quality care and learning opportunities for children from infancy to early adolescence and makes every effort to work in collaboration with the child’s family, other childcare providers, and community resources. NCCS is described as a multi-faceted agency serving families and businesses throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Treasure House Child Development Centers follow teaching guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and utilize The Creative Curriculum for Infant through Pre-K Programs and The Emergent Curriculum for School Age Programs. The program is described as child-centered and rooted in child development theories, with learning activities planned to engage children’s natural curiosity about the world they live in and a commitment to giving children time to play freely with the things and people that interest them. The centers describe themselves as providing a home away from home for children.
Teaching staff hold Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) Credentials, are described as qualified, and are trained in child development theories. Center staff are trained to respect children and to treat them accordingly at all times. Treasure House Child Development Centers are licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL), participate in the Keystone STARS Quality Initiative Program, and all locations are PA Keystone STAR 4 Centers with a quality rating score of STAR 4. The curriculum is approved by the Department of Education, and the centers participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program. All locations have state of the art facilities with video surveillance, secure entry doors, and Department of Human Services licensed indoor and outdoor spaces.
Parent feedback includes comments that staff at various Treasure House locations are welcoming, caring, kind, considerate, and that parents do not worry about their children while they are there. Parents report that their children love the centers, have learned a lot, made friends, and that the experience has been a strong start to their educational journey. One parent notes that their toddlers are excited each day to play with friends and teachers and specifically mentions appreciation for the hands-on activities, outdoor play, and learning through song.
