The Youth Theatre Program includes a Summer Camp and staged productions. The program presents “101 Dalmatians KIDS” and “Once Upon a Mattress: Youth Edition” as part of its activities.

The Youth Theatre Program takes place at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple, a historic venue that includes a theatre, a ballroom, Shopland Hall, and a Junior Ballroom renovated for youth programs. The Scranton Cultural Center’s mission is to enrich the community through cultural programming, arts education, and creative experiences while preserving and celebrating a nationally significant historic treasure that serves as a center for connection, learning, and opportunity. The organization serves as a regional performance and cultural hub and is home to national Broadway tours, concerts, and community events.
The building that houses the Scranton Cultural Center was designed by Raymond M. Hood and was built between 1927 and 1930, with construction bids going out in January 1927 and inauguration on January 2, 1930. It is described as a historic landmark and one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most iconic cultural landmarks, featuring a highly stylized Neo-Gothic and Romanesque pastiche conceived as a monument to Masonry and spanning nearly 180,000 square feet. Restoration and improvement projects have included a complete copper roof system replacement, lead paint and asbestos remediation, new electrical service, air conditioning in the theatre and ballroom, restoration of the grand ballroom walls and ceiling and main lobbies, ADA-compliant restrooms, completion of the Raymond Hood Room in 2007, renovation of the Junior Ballroom for youth programs, air conditioning in Shopland Hall, and theatre walls and ceiling restoration, with additional planned upgrades such as new stage lighting and sound reinforcement, replacement of the 75-year-old stage floor, updated dressing rooms, elevated portable seating in Shopland Hall, and air conditioning for floors 2–4.
The leadership team connected to the venue includes Deborah Moran Peterson, Executive Director; Frank Blasi, Esq., Executive Director; John Cardoni, General Manager; Jason Helman, Business Manager; Tiffany Atkins, Assistant Technical Director; Rachael Fronduti, Marketing Manager; William Kreis, Food and Beverage Manager; Ashley La Tassa, Broadway Subscriptions/Groups; Donna Pivovarnik, Volunteer Coordinator; Camille Reinecke, Arts and Education Outreach Manager; Patrick Toomey, Assistant Technical Director; and Kelly Trapper, Special Events Sales Manager. The organization notes that support for its work helps preserve a historic landmark while supporting performances, programs, and community experiences, and that it is in the midst of a multi-phase, multi-million dollar restoration described as one of the most significant historic preservation projects in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
