Summer Alive is an outdoor day camp with a child-directed program of free expression. The camp encourages learning through play outdoors, fosters friendships and teamwork, and offers creative opportunities and experiences in nature in a hardwood forest setting.
• Ages: 5–10 years old
• Schedule: One and two-week camp sessions are available for children ages 5–10.
Summer Alive has been active for 25 years and is an outreach program of Project CoffeeHouse, which was founded in 2001. Its mission states that campers experience a supportive, caring, and affirming community where nature sparks an innate sense of awe and wonder, where cooperation and kindness are exemplified, and where the unique gifts of every child are recognized and fostered. Thanks to the generosity of the Montgomery Water Authority, the vision for a genuine nature camp for kids age 5–10 has become a reality. The program has a 5 out of 5 star rating. One 6-year-old described a day at Summer Alive by saying, “This was the best day of my whole life.” An 8-year-old shared, “I never knew green beans were so delicious!” while eating fresh string beans from the Children’s Garden. A 26-year-old reflected on youth with Project CoffeeHouse by saying, “Project CoffeeHouse saved my life.”
