Harpeth Gymnastics was established in 1986 under the name Harpeth School of Gymnastics and has been bringing recreational and competitive gymnastics to Franklin, TN since 1986. Harpeth Gymnastics has been managed by Glenda Webster for the past thirty-five years. The program describes gymnastics as a great foundation for every child, no matter what sport they decide to pursue, and as the sport of all sports, and uses the phrase “Where EVERY Child Is A CHAMPION!”
The facility includes an Olympic size spring floor, foam block tumbling floor, foam and matted in-ground safety pits, a floor level trampoline, a 40 foot tumbling trampoline, vault, floor, rings, uneven, parallel and high bars, balance beams, and a pommel horse. A top quality swimming program is offered May–July each year.
The leadership team includes Scott Webster (Owner/Founder), Glenda Webster (Owner/Founder), Josh Webster (Gym Manager | Coach), Mont Whitson (Senior Coach | Boys Team Founder), Dave Pruitt (Event Coordinator), Hannah Pruitt (KIDtastic Founder/Director | Coach), Leah Davison (Preschool Director | Coach), LaTonya Franco (GymStar & Girls Rec Director | Coach), Lucas Mendonca (Boys Team Director | Head Coach), and coaches Katie Widmaier, Nicholas Hensley, Kristen Cruze, Savanna Harris, and Maddie Webster. Scott graduated from Franklin High School in 1974, received his Masters in Education from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), taught gymnastics, tennis, and swimming as a graduate assistant, then became a schoolteacher and coach, and began teaching gymnastics full time in 1983. Glenda also graduated from Franklin High School in 1974 and attended MTSU where she studied Business and Early Childhood Education.
Harpeth Gymnastics states that all children have immeasurable worth and value inherent because they are God’s creation, and that its goal is to give the same top quality instruction to each student regardless of ability. The program states that by creating an environment where each child feels valued, confidence and self-worth will be gained, as well as gymnastics development, and that this is the standard by which it measures success. The owners’ children consider it a privilege to give back to their lifelong community, and Glenda grew up in a family-owned business where she learned the value of strong work ethics and investing in community.
One parent, Kathy Rivers, shares that Harpeth Gymnastics has been a big part of her daughter’s life for several years and that, as a gymnastics club, Harpeth teaches honesty, character and teamwork, and that the owners know her, the coaches inspire her, and her teammates cheer her on. Another parent, Kerry Ivy, shares that in four years of mommy & me and preschool classes, her child Cole learned gymnastics and life skills such as waiting your turn, cheering on friends, and listening to and following directions, and that the coaches really got to know each child and parent individually and worked with them on their level.
