Austin Tennis Academy’s mission is to help junior tennis student-athletes reach their full potential on the court, in the classroom, and in their personal life. The leadership team includes Jack Newman, CEO of Austin Tennis Academy and founder, along with co-founders Eric Schmidhauser and coach Doug Davis, and ATA coach Ryan Rowe. Groundbreaking for the ATA facility took place in March 2003, construction was completed in mid-October 2003, and the third building phase happened in 2013, after the founders left St. Stephen’s in 2002 to start the academy. ATA added its own private, fully-accredited on-campus school, ATA College Prep, which is known for excellence in education, and maintains a community of coaches, teachers, and student-athletes working together to become citizens of significance. Camps at Austin Tennis Academy are designed to provide development of physical, mental, technical, and tactical performance levels, and the academy offers premier full racquet services for players at any skill level.

At the founding of Austin Tennis Academy, Jack Newman committed to raise $1 million over the life of the business for the local charity A Glimmer of Hope, which supports projects in Austin and in Ethiopia. ATA players, parents, and coaches have raised funds to drill numerous water wells and build educational and medical facilities in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, and members of the ATA community, including students, have traveled to Ethiopia on three occasions to participate in the opening of schools, water wells, and other projects. To date, the ATA community has raised more than $650,000 toward this $1 million pledge. Austin Tennis Academy also holds an annual fundraising event called the Shootout for the Austin Athletics Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)3 charity that supports deserving student-athletes pursuing a disciplined lifestyle, and after nearly a quarter of a century of holding the Shootout, ATA has raised more than $2.2 million in scholarships awarded to dozens of junior players who have a philanthropic spirit and commit themselves to giving back and making a positive impact in the world.
