The Austin Yacht Club was founded in 1951 as the Austin Sailing Club and became the Austin Yacht Club in 1969. Its mission states that it is a premier sailing club with an emphasis on sailboat racing, sailing education, and social activities for the entire family, with activities centered around volunteerism in leadership, committees, events, and activities. Camps and clinics are typically taught by members with world-class cruising and racing experience, and the club is an accredited ASA Sailing School. A Junior Student Member has privileges that are limited to use of the club facilities and boat storage in the Junior Sailing Facility, and junior sailors who are learning to race may use these privileges under supervision.
