• Schedule: After-school drop-off and virtual program for kids learning to code
theCoderSchool was founded in 2013 and is operated by the Coder School San Francisco, LLC, with copyright from 2014–2025. The co-founders are Hansel and Wayne. Its mission statement says it focuses on a mentor relationship with experienced coders, called Code Coaches, and that its core philosophy is that kids are unique and should be taught in the way that fits them best.
The program describes its locations as having a “cool startup-vibe” and notes a super-small student-to-teacher ratio, typically 2:1. It offers an AppStream product for new coders delivered through an online weekly video format and maintains a public App Gallery that showcases student projects. theCoderSchool states that it is the largest coding school in Silicon Valley with more locations planned around the country and that it has authored books with Simon Basher from Basher Books in a graphical style. It also offers franchising opportunities to start a theCoderSchool business.
As a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), theCoderSchool participates in encouraging innovation through coding across the country. Beginning in 2025–2026, it is collaborating with CAC to run a national recognition program to identify a handful of top applications from thousands of CAC submissions nationwide. The program also runs a National Top App of the Month program that recognizes the best app out of hundreds submitted nationwide by students.

One parent from New Jersey with 23 years in IT states that theCoderSchool created a customized curriculum and calls it “the place you want your kids to be.” A parent from California reports that online classes have been engaging and calls it a “quarantine lifesaver.” A parent from Georgia notes that their child enjoys creating games, continuing to work on them between sessions, and mentions an online spring break camp.
