Candlelighters Psychosocial & Therapeutic Programs and Summer Oncology Camps include summer oncology camps, equine assisted therapy, caregiver workshops, and counseling. Candlelighters of West Texas/Southern New Mexico is the sole provider in its region of free services from three pillars offering support, advocacy, and education to children diagnosed with cancer (ages birth to 25), their families, and the community at large. Its continuum of care begins immediately following diagnosis, continues through the treatment period, and extends up to 6 months after treatment, and financial support is provided for as long as a child is in treatment. The organization’s mission is that no child will fight cancer alone. The leadership team includes CEO Melissa Atkins Wardy; Family Services Coordinator Hilda Menefee; Special Projects Manager Norma Reyes; Data Entry staff member Toni Garcia; Grant Writer Hayley Lynch; Communications & Brand Coordinator Lorena Fierro; and board members Judy Peinado (President), Kelly Cortez (Secretary), Gabe Peña (Treasurer), Linda Alvarado, Natalie Eckberg, PJ Ferris, Amanda French, DNP, Andrew Gomez, Andrea Macias, Barbara Powell, Gaby Rodriguez, Aley Valdespino, and Tony Walker. Candlelighters partners with Saver's Thrift Stores for donations of used clothing and household goods.
