About
Fort Cavazos Youth Centers (Middle School & Teen Program) offers activities such as robotics, STEM activities, digital movie making, music making, photography, graphic design, and web development. The program also includes homework assistance, Internet surfing in Youth Tech Labs, Middle School Torch Clubs, High School Keystone Club, community service, Career Explorations Program, Workforce Prep program, Project Learn Program, trips, social activities, use of full size gyms, game rooms with the newest systems, and social areas.
• Ages: 11–18 years old
• Schedule: Orientation is held at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at all locations, with youth centers generally open Monday–Saturday or Monday–Friday from 12–8 p.m.
• Price: Teen Taxi is a free after school pick-up service, and USDA Snacks are provided at no charge to all CYS members Monday–Saturday.
Each facility has Youth Tech Labs with wifi throughout the center, and each tech lab is protected by CYBERsitter content filtering software that complies with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. Each user is taught safe Internet skills before accessing any of the lab’s computers, and Youth Tech Labs play a dynamic role in daily club activities. The MS/T program has qualified homework instructors who assist teens with homework and with finding college scholarships and grants.
Teens may join the Middle School Torch Clubs or the High School Keystone Club to learn and practice leadership skills, assist staff in making rules, planning programs, decorating centers, providing community service, and evaluating teen programs and services. Teens within the leadership program have opportunities for college scholarships and grants, and high school teens have opportunities to represent the installation’s teens at forums and boards held throughout the United States. Club members provide community service, and middle school and high school teens have opportunities to have their voice heard by community command leaders.
Teen Taxi is an after school Monday–Friday pick-up service that transports youth to designated Fort Cavazos Youth Centers and is free and open to middle school youth and high school teens who are eligible to attend the centers. The Teen Sponsorship program helps relocate youth become familiar with their new home and assists teens when moving to a new post, and each quarter a Hail & Farewell event is held. Youth Centers are always looking for new teen sponsors, and USDA Snacks are provided at no charge to all CYS members Monday–Saturday.
