About

Mission Success offers academic support, health and wellness programming, athletics, and an urban squash after-school model. The program also includes enriching corporate mentor relationships for participating students.

Mission Success was founded in 2011. Its mission statement is: “Unlocking youth potential through academic excellence, athletics, health and wellness, and professional mentoring.” The program empowers students from Houston’s underserved communities to unlock and maximize their potential through intensive, year-round academic support, health and wellness programming, athletics, and enriching corporate mentor relationships, and its approach is based on a proven urban squash after-school model. It is the only program of its kind in Texas and prepares economically disadvantaged students both physically and academically to succeed in college and as productive young adults who give back to their communities.

Each student receives more than 150 hours of academic support per year. The program reports a 100% high school graduation rate, 100% of high school seniors applying to college, a 100% college acceptance rate, and 100% of students adopting healthier and more balanced lifestyles. Students have received a total of $1.74 million in scholarships. Mission Success is committed to transparency and accountability in its operations, including financial reporting, and makes its IRS Form 990 available for public inspection.

The leadership and staff team includes Maggie Trendell (Executive Director), Alexandra Platt (Program Director), Alejandra Perez (Head Coach), Hussein Hassanali (Assistant Coach), Mariano Serrano (Assistant Coach), Kory Clemens (Development Coordinator), and Mr. Moreno (Academic Coordinator). Board members include Alistair Barnes, Jessica Cook, Arnaud Dasprez, Chris Laporte, Charlie Neuhaus, Robert Overbey, Andrew Sprague, Yasmin Sharma, Carol Sugimoto, and Stuart McGeoch. Community involvement includes a partnership with the Marvy Finger Family Foundation to support the Signature Academics Program, and Mission Success has joined the Squash and Education Alliance.
