Club SciKidz Houston is an independently owned franchise of Club SciKidz and is the first Houston location. Founders Bob and Sue Hagan have a combined 30 plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education. The curriculum is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Camps for ages 12–15 are titled Tech Scientific and emphasize 21st Century Skills such as collaboration, technology integration, communication, presentation, and problem solving, while camps for ages 4–11 offer similar skill building opportunities in an introductory manner. Club SciKidz Houston describes itself as Houston’s (and surrounding area) premiere summer Science day camp and as a top choice for Summer Programs and STEM Summer Camps in Houston, Texas, and as the best STEM enrichment company for children in grades PK–8th. The program states that its science lessons often include language arts, history, and mathematical components, and that activities emphasize a child’s natural curiosity and a strong foundation for later learning.

Club SciKidz was established in 1997, and the first summer camp was called “Special Effects.” Beginning in 2001, Camp Young Scientist was created to accommodate children ages 6–8. There are now over 50 Science Camp themes offering projects and experiments for kids ages 4–15, and over 60 different themed summer camps are available across the program.

According to the mission statement, Club SciKidz was founded on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life-impacting academic enrichment experiences. The organization states that it is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world through camps and program activities in a wide range of disciplines, using carefully researched STEM-based lessons that engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts. The mission statement also notes that lessons often include language arts, history, and mathematical components, and that the programs are intended to enrich and empower children to their maximum potential in science exploration and to make a significant impact on the community through the enrichment of future minds.

The program describes having very robust In-School Field Trips and After-School STEM programs, an interactive and content-rich website with ease of camp registration and a handy schedule for parents, and drop-off and pick-up check-in via an app. It also states that summer camps offer extended day programs for working parents, that camp locations are safe and supportive, and that it follows the highest standard of health protocols. The program notes that participants have the opportunity to gain skills in social interactions and play activities.

Parent feedback includes comments such as “Fun! Lots of fun and kind, caring staff! My son came home happy and well entertained,” and “My daughter learned so much and had a blast. The teenagers/young adults that facilitated the activities were GREAT!” Other testimonials state that children “loved the variety of activities, the fun experiments, and the interaction with the other kids and counselors,” and that it was “their favorite camp of the summer.” Additional comments describe it as a “safe environment, fun activities, great hours,” “lots of unique activities, organized and well run,” and note that “everyone was incredibly thoughtful and caring.”
