Kidventure was founded in Texas in 1994 by Founder and President Mike McDonell, beginning as an outgrowth of a summer program at Biron Gymnastics in West Houston. Kidventure has operated for over 30 years, has 30+ years building character, and is approaching its 32nd season. The program serves a record number of families at over 31 locations, has been trusted by 10,000+ Texas families since 1994, serves 10,000+ families yearly, and reports that 85% of families return year after year. In Houston, Kidventure has been present for 30+ years with 15 area locations and 80,000 families served.

Kidventure states that its core mission is to bring children together, help them forge new friendships, and support personal growth journeys in a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment. Since 1994, it has provided dynamic and thoughtful children’s programs for thousands of families, with the stated goal of growing happy, healthy kids and guiding them on the road to becoming great people. The program states that camp gives kids the chance to discover their potential, explore the world around them, and develop abilities and character traits for future leadership, while also emphasizing letting kids be kids.

Kidventure is certified by the American Camp Association and operates award-winning summer day camp locations in Austin, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Texas Hill Country locations. It offers summer day camps in Austin, Dallas, and Houston for children ages 3 to 14, and Safari Overnight Camps in the Texas Hill Country for ages 8 to 16, with overnight and seasonal camp registration opening before Summer Camp 2026 registration. Through its non-profit Ollie’s Kids, established in 2022, Kidventure operates Camp Rainbow Days, which provides summer camp experiences to children experiencing homelessness. Camp programs include service activities such as volunteering at local food pantries and creating snack packs and hygiene kits for homeless individuals. Kidventure describes itself as a partnership between parents, exceptional role-model staff, and host facilities.

Parent testimonials describe Kidventure as a program where children play all day without TV, sleep well at night, and look forward to returning each summer. One parent notes a balance of trips to Typhoon Texas, Top Golf, and Battlefield Houston with service activities and weekly group discussions centered around core values such as trustworthiness and authentic communication, and mentions options for afternoon extended care and meal plans like pizza on Fridays. Other parents and staff highlight counselors as patient, enthusiastic, and kind, describe strong communication about each child’s day, and mention long-term staff who report leadership growth and a welcoming, family-like work environment. Staff and parents also reference positive experiences with specific locations and with front-end customer service.
