• Schedule: Hours by appointment only
• Price: First month’s tuition is due at registration to hold a spot; tuition is processed automatically on the 1st of each month; two weeks’ written notice before the start of the next month is required to withdraw; no refunds or credits are issued after payment; students joining mid-month may have prorated tuition or a credit applied.
Spotlight Acting offers professional Houston acting classes rooted in a technique-driven, on-camera approach, with instruction based on the Chubbuck Technique. Classes are available for ages 8 through adult, from beginner to advanced, and classes are kept small, ranging from 8–14 students, with youth classes having 2 instructors for every 12 students. The program uses a technique-driven, on-camera approach with small group classes and a focus on professional, film and television-focused training in a supportive, hands-on environment. The Performance Lab class is the only class with a live performance, and the focus of all other classes is on on-camera training. Students can join a class at any time with rolling enrollment, and many students grow in vocal strength, self-expression, and presence over time.
Katie Martin is the owner, instructor, and Chubbuck Certified Coach, and is a certified instructor of the Chubbuck Technique, a distinction held by only a select few instructors worldwide. Katie Martin has over 30 years of acting experience, has directed more than 50 plays and musicals, and has created award-winning short films, and she trained directly with Ivana Chubbuck and is officially recognized to teach the Chubbuck Technique. Sommer Bruens is the studio manager and instructor, has filled multiple crew roles on award-winning films, and brings hands-on filmmaking experience into every class she teaches. Alisa Martin is a youth instructor who has been immersed in acting her entire life and has participated in Spotlight classes for over a decade.
Spotlight Acting is certified in the world-renowned Chubbuck Technique and serves the communities of Katy, Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Midtown, and Houston. The program is not a talent agency and cannot guarantee bookings, but it shares audition leads and opportunities with enrolled students, provides referrals to casting directors when possible, and guides families on how to get started in the industry. Families are asked to bring a notebook, a printed copy of the assigned script, a pencil and ballpoint pen, water, any props needed in the scene, and comfortable clothing for movement and on-camera exercises.
One parent described Spotlight Acting as “excellent in person acting classes for kids,” noting that a 12-year-old student attending master classes “blossomed in confidence and skill” and that the instructors “really bring out the best in each child.” A former student reported that classes “got in depth” and “really helped me understand my characters more,” helped them “find a process that worked,” and that their social skills and understanding of their own emotions increased. Another parent shared that they “absolutely loved the movie” their son produced with Spotlight Acting Academy, described the acting lessons with Katie as “such quality,” and stated that their son had “such a great time” and that they plan to send him back and recommend Spotlight to friends.
