• Ages: 4–18 years old
Hidden Acres Christian Camp and Retreat Center was founded in 1984, and its history is described in four decades: The Decade of Beginnings (1984–1994), The Decade of Development (1994–2004), The Decade of Vision (2004–2014), and The Decade of Growth (2014–2024). Since opening in 1984, it has welcomed generations to grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and be renewed in Christ. Its mission is to equip leaders, with a vision to impact lives and develop leaders with a Christian worldview and Christ-like leadership, and for over forty years its stated mission has remained to share the Gospel, show Christ’s love, and see lives transformed. Hidden Acres describes itself as a place set apart where guests step away from daily life to encounter Christ, enjoy His creation, and grow in faith and community.
The leadership team includes Tim Carpenter as Executive Director; Christy Cope as Business Administrator & Guest Services Coordinator; Doris Carpenter as Administrative Assistant; and Rebeca Carpenter as Administrative Assistant & Camp Skholē Director. Board members are listed as Kirby Cope (Board Chairman), Katheryn Shindoll, Mike Heinz, Darrin Diffee, Jeff Diffee, Andrew Gilbert, and Barbara Henderson.
Hidden Acres describes the camp setting as especially important because they state that most people come to Christ between the ages of 4 and 14, and that camp ministry is one of the most effective means of reaching children during this stage. Educational programs OAKS (launched in 2015) and Camp Skholē (launched in 2022) provide Christ-centered learning experiences, and Camp Skholē is also offered during the school year. Hidden Acres states that it has a special commitment to making camp available for those who may not otherwise be able to attend.
In its community involvement, Hidden Acres partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Pleasant Grove in 1995 to host a camp for children from that community, a program later renamed Jerry’s Dream Camp in 2007. In 2007, Hidden Acres launched Mission Camp, welcoming refugee children from Dallas to experience summer camp, and this outreach has grown to include campers from many underserved backgrounds. Hidden Acres also partners with churches and ministries by providing a Christ-centered environment where believers can gather, retreat, and grow together in community.
