About
H. E. Butt Foundation Camp partners with churches, nonprofits, and schools to host retreat groups in the Frio River Canyon. The program provides retreat facilities at four separate campsites in the Canyon: Echo Valley, Headwaters, Linnet’s Wings (currently closed), and Singing Hills. Qualifying groups that use the camp provide their own programming, food service, insurance coverage, and staff for the supervision of their retreat activities.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Price: There is no fee for use of the facilities for qualified groups.
H. E. Butt Foundation Camp has been hosting in the Frio River Canyon since 1954, after the H. E. Butt Foundation acquired 1,900 acres north of Leakey, Texas, to develop the camp. The mission of the camp is to partner with hundreds of churches, nonprofits, and schools each year to provide retreat facilities, free of charge, in the Frio River Canyon, with a goal of serving youth and families who normally would not be able to participate in retreat opportunities. The program especially targets youth in Texas who would not otherwise be able to afford this outdoor experience and was created to provide a place where boys and girls, men and women could further their knowledge of God and his creation while experiencing camp life. The camp is reserved for nonprofit organizations that serve the common good and that bring campers who would not otherwise be able to afford the experience, including varied types of church retreats, youth service organizations, schools, MHMR retreats, and other groups dedicated to serving people in the state of Texas.
