Naranjo Museum Discovery Camps include Spring Discovery Camp and Naranjo Museum Summer Camps, along with other activities such as Dancing with Dinos and a scavenger hunt. Campers spend time in the museum’s exhibits, which feature dinosaur displays, fossil digging stations, authentic dinosaur bones, a moon stone from the Apollo 14 mission, and immersive exhibits with many artifacts to look at. • Price: Museum Admission Adult Ticket: $8.00; Child Ticket (ages 4–18): $5.00; Museum Members: Free; Children 3 and under: Free (not applicable for group tours); Group Tours (10+): $5.00 per person (must schedule in advance for group rate).
The Naranjo Museum of Natural History was established in 2011 by the Naranjo Foundation, and in 1960 Dr. Neal Naranjo began a lifelong quest to find and preserve dinosaur bones. The museum’s mission is to provide access to natural history artifacts and exhibits about ancient cultures, the natural world, and the universe. The leadership team includes Erin Gentry, Executive Director; Esmeralda Roberts, Museum Manager; Veronica Byrd, Education Director; and Dr. Jennings Neal Naranjo, Founder & CEO of the Naranjo Museum of Natural History. The museum serves an estimated 60,000 children from 200 schools in the East Texas region, and the Lufkin Cultural Sites participate in The Passport.
Parents and visitors have described the museum as having very cool artifacts and dinosaurs, a fun playground for younger children, and immersive exhibits with lots of artifacts to look at.
