For over 25 years, Candlelight Ranch has offered a place where children overcome fears, families grow closer and a love for nature takes root. The mission of Candlelight Ranch is to provide educational and nature-based experiences for families and children of all abilities and needs to learn, explore and heal. Programs serve children with disabilities, military families, foster and adoptive families, and youth facing social, emotional, or financial hardships, and the organization partners with over 40 schools and youth-serving nonprofits. The Executive Director is Joel Peal.
One Camp Dreamcatcher counselor shared that “Everyone who participates in Camp Dreamcatcher greatly benefits. The children develop self-confidence, feel empowered, and connect to Mother Earth and to one another. Camp Dreamcatcher builds life affirming trust, traditions, and community.” A Children in Nature participant said, “I know now I can do anything- today is life changing for me – I wish my parents could be here and see what I am capable of. I was feeling desperation – won’t ever tell myself I can’t do anything anymore!” Another Children in Nature participant said, “Today I learned persistence, I learned that the harder I work the better the ending will be,” and a Camp Dreamcatcher participant shared, “At camp I learned to be myself.” A Children in Nature partner organization described “a whimsical two days” with many first experiences such as first camping, first fishing, and first kayaking, and noted that “The staff is capable, compassionate and really made the experience wonderful.” A Military Family Day participant said, “We experience and benefit so much from just being together as a family and being outdoors. We laughed, played, supported each other and made new friends in the process. Thank you, Candlelight Ranch!”
