Fort Aquatics is an affiliate business of Fort Montessori Academy and is owned by Uma and Arun, who are also the founders of Fort Montessori and Fort Gymnastics. Fort Montessori opened in June 2010, and Fort Aquatics was established in June 2017. Uma Alagappan is the Co-Owner and Assistant Aquatic Director of Fort Aquatics. The management reports over 10 years of experience working with children through Fort Montessori, Fort Aquatics, and Fort Gymnastics classes.
The Fort Aquatics facility is a 5200 square foot private, temperature controlled indoor swim facility with a pool that operates year-round and maintains water temperature around 90 degrees. The pool uses a state of the art UV water filtration system that completely changes over all of the pool water every 90 minutes. The program notes a clean, safe, child-friendly environment and offers a free, no obligation trial class.
The team at Fort Aquatics consists of dedicated, friendly, well-trained instructors who have all undergone thorough background checks. The program states that it customizes and adapts its swim programs to each child’s unique learning needs and uses an adaptive training methodology. The focus of the swim program is to develop a love for swimming and remove the fear of water, with progression from feeling safe and comfortable to floating technique and breath control, then swim stroke development, endurance, speed, and strength.
Fort Aquatics describes its vision as offering an a la carte set of services in unison with Fort Gymnastics and Fort Montessori, including swim lessons, day care, after school care, pick up from local schools, summer camp, winter camp, and gym lessons, with the same quality of service across all three businesses. Its stated philosophy in teaching swimming and gymnastics is “Believe and Inspire,” which includes the belief that every child has the potential to learn and master any skill if it is taught properly and the child has a passion to learn, and that the job of the instructor is to inspire through encouragement and motivation.
Fort picks up children from elementary schools in and around Murphy and takes them to swim and gym classes as part of the program. Families have shared testimonials describing their experiences, including comments about children progressing from disliking water or being sensitive to chemicals to swimming independently, enjoying the UV-filtered pool, advancing through multiple swim levels, and attending multiple days per week because of the trainers and culture described in their reviews.
